BBQ Chicken Dry Rub Recipe

This recipe is great for use on other cuts of poultry and even pork too. Try it on:

  • Turkey
  • Chicken
  • Duck
  • Pork

THE INGREDIENTS

These quantities will make enough rub for one large chicken. If there’s some leftover, store it in a cool dry place and it will last for a year.

  • 2 teaspoons of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika
  • 2 teaspoons of garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons of onion powder

CUSTOMISING TO TASTE

Everyone’s palate is different so try adding some of these popular spices:

  • Ginger powder
  • Cayenne pepper
  • Chilli flakes
  • Black pepper
  • Cinnamon

THE METHOD

Simply combine all of the ingredients in a bowl with a whisk or spoon. Or, you can put the rub into a sealed container and give it a good shake.

APPLYING THE RUB

Unlike many meats, there’s no need to use a binding agent with chicken.

  • Firstly, pat the chicken dry with some kitchen towels
  • Secondly, sprinkle the rub on the chicken, making sure to coat it evenly
  • Now your chicken is now ready for cooking. Enjoy!

HOW TO COOK CHICKEN

I love the flavour of my chicken when I cook it on my ceramic chicken stand. Using it, combined with this dry rub, results in the chicken tasting amazing, inside and out.

SHOULD THE DRY RUB REST ON THE CHICKEN?

The short answer is no. There’s no need to let dry rub rest on the chicken. In fact, if you leave the chicken to sit for too long, the rub will start to lose its flavour or fall off. It’s best to start cooking the chicken straight away.
